netherlands esim: plans, networks and prices for 2026

8 min read

A netherlands esim gives you mobile data on Dutch networks from the moment you land, without buying a local SIM. NoKYCsim's Netherlands plans run on KPN and Vodafone, start at $5.32 and need no ID at checkout. EU visitors can often skip it: EU SIMs roam in the Netherlands at home prices.

This guide compares netherlands esim plans with local SIMs and roaming, explains the three Dutch networks, and shows which plan size fits your trip. New to eSIMs? Start with what an eSIM is.

It's written by NoKYCsim, which some people find by searching simnokyc. We sell data-only travel eSIMs with no account or ID upload at checkout, and we'll say when roaming or a local SIM is the better deal.

Do you need a netherlands esim?

It depends on where your mobile plan comes from.

  • EU and EEA plans. The Netherlands is in the EU, so Roam Like at Home lets you use calls, texts and data at your usual price, subject to your operator's fair-use policy.
  • UK plans. Since Brexit, UK operators can charge for roaming in the EU, and many add a daily fee. Check yours before you travel.
  • US, Canadian, Australian and other plans. Roaming usually means a daily pass or pay-per-MB rates, so a travel eSIM is often far cheaper.

Dutch mobile networks in 2026

The Netherlands has three mobile networks: KPN, Vodafone (part of VodafoneZiggo) and Odido, formerly T-Mobile. All three are strong. In umlaut's network test for connect, run in January and February 2026, KPN scored 988 out of 1,000, Odido 987 and Vodafone 972, and all three were rated outstanding.

KPN had the highest share of 5G in that test, reaching 100% of samples in the big cities. The country is flat and densely populated, so coverage is good almost everywhere, in cities and the countryside alike.

NoKYCsim's Netherlands plans list KPN and Vodafone, so your phone can connect to whichever of the two is stronger where you are.

Older networks are closing. Vodafone switched off 3G in 2020 and KPN in 2022; only Odido still runs it, and KPN plans to keep 2G until December 2027. Every eSIM phone supports 4G, so this only affects old backup phones.

eSIM vs local SIM vs roaming in the Netherlands

For short trips from outside the EU, a netherlands esim is usually the cheapest and quickest option. A local prepaid SIM makes more sense for long stays where you need a Dutch number.

The Netherlands has no law requiring ID to buy a prepaid SIM. Our guide on how to buy a SIM card anonymously explains where that applies, and our eSIM vs physical SIM guide compares the two formats.

How much data do you need in the Netherlands?

Maps, train apps and messaging are light on data; video calls, streaming and hotspot use are not. Schiphol and most NS trains offer free Wi-Fi, which helps on travel days.

How to set up your netherlands esim

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, so you have data as soon as you land at Schiphol or arrive at Amsterdam Centraal.

  1. 1

    Check your phone

It must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Run our compatible check first.

  2. 2

    Choose a plan

Pick a plan by trip length and data, or a day pass for a stopover.

  3. 3

    Check out without ID

No account or ID upload is needed. Save the secret key if you skip email, and pay with crypto or by card where it's offered.

  4. 4

    Install on Wi-Fi

Follow our guides for iPhone or Android, and install the profile before you leave home.

  5. 5

    Switch on when you land

Turn on the travel line and set it as your mobile data line. Check the plan's activation note, since validity rules vary.

  6. 6

    Turn off home-line roaming

Keep your home SIM on for calls and texts if you need them, but turn off its data roaming to avoid charges.

  7. 7

    Get the transport apps

Download the NS and 9292 apps for trains, trams and buses before you go.

Travelling beyond the Netherlands

Netherlands-only plans work only in the Netherlands. If your trip crosses a border, plan for it before you go.

  • Belgium and Germany. Both are in the EU; a Europe eSIM can cover several countries on one plan, or see our Germany eSIM page for a longer stay there.
  • The UK. The Eurostar takes you to London in about four hours, and the UK is outside the EU. Buy a separate plan from our UK eSIM page.

The bottom line

The best netherlands esim is the one that matches your trip: 3 GB for a week, 10 GB for a month, and a day pass for a stopover. EU travellers can usually just roam; everyone else gets the simplest setup from a two-network eSIM installed before they fly.
